MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) # MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is a naturally occurring organosulphur compound found in small amounts in many foods including green vegetables, fruit and grains. In supplement form it is used primarily for joint and connective tissue support in humans, dogs and cats. ## Mechanism of Action MSM is a bioavailable source of sulphur, a mineral required for the synthesis of collagen, keratin and glycosaminoglycans, the structural components of cartilage, tendons and connective tissue. Its primary mechanism of action in joint health is inhibition of NF-kB, a key regulator of the inflammatory response. This reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in joint tissue. MSM also has antioxidant properties that reduce oxidative stress in articular cartilage.
